Arthur Frommer

Innovative best-selling travel writer, guidebook author, editor-in-chief, publisher, syndicated columnist, radio personality, lecturer, entrepreneur

Arthur Frommer is often acknowledged to be America’s foremost authority on travel.

His first travel guide, the influential Europe on $5 a Day (still published as Europe from $70 a Day), first appeared in 1956 and soon became the best-selling travel guidebook in publishing history to that time. While continuing to revise and publish this signature guide for 30 consecutive years, he built a series of guides that now numbers more than 300 titles covering all of the world's travel destinations.

His most recent best-seller was Arthur Frommer's New World of Travel dealing with emerging, non-standard and non-traditional vacations.  He has also written A Masterpiece Called Belgium, Surprising Amsterdam, New York: A Practical Guide, and numerous other guides.

He is the founder of the phenomenally successful Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel magazine, and served as its Editor-in-Chief for the first six years of its existence. He writes numerous magazine articles on a broad variety of travel subjects, as well as a syndicated weekly national newspaper column for King Features.

The major theme of his writings and appearances is the pursuit of value in travel arrangements, and content (as well as pleasure) in the travel experience.

Arthur Frommer is a graduate of the Yale University Law School, where he was an editor of the Yale Law Journal, and he is a member of the New York Bar.  After service overseas with US Army Intelligence at the time of the Korean War, he practiced law in New York until the growing demands of his travel writing and publishing career required that he give it his full-time attention.

Mr Frommer joined the SATW Institute faculty for the second time in 2005, having served on the faculty of the 3rd annual Institute in 1998.
