Bruce Whipperman

Guidebook author, travel writer, photographer.

In the early 1980s, the lure of travel drew Bruce Whipperman away from a 20-year career teaching physics. The occasion was a trip to Kenya that included a total solar eclipse and a wildlife safari.

He hasn't stopped traveling since.  He started out selling photos of his travels with a street stand in Berkeley, California. He soon added writing and began contributing dozens of feature stories and photos to national newspapers and magazines.

His first book, the Moon Handbooks: Pacific Mexico, in 1993, won the Mexican government Pluma de Plata ("Silver Quill" ) award and the SATW Foundation's Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism bronze award.

He followed with Moon Handbooks: Puerto Vallarta, in 1995; Moon Handbooks: Oaxaca, in 2000; and the Moon Handbooks: Guadalajara, in 2002.

His Moon Handbooks: Acapulco appeared on bookshelves in 2004.
